Aval upma
Upma is an south Indian dish made of Rava. It is a popular breakfast dish across south India.It is usually made with refined wheat grains, which in India generally call suji and is also known in thesouth of India as rava.There are lots of varieties of Upma like rava upma,vegetable upma,bread upma,poha oats upma,vermicelli upma,semiya upma,aval upma.

 Ingredients

  1. Aval-3 cup
  2. Ground nut-2tbsp
  3. OIl-2 tbsp
  4. Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
  5. Onion-1 capsicum-1
  6. Green chilly-2 or 3
  7. Spring onion-4
  8. Potato(cook and mash well)-1big
  9. Curry leaves-a few
  10. Sugar-1 tbsp
  11. Salt-to  taste
  12. Chilly powder-1tsp
  13. Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
  14. Lemon juice-1tbsp
  15. Coriander leaves-a few
  16. Grated coconut-2tbsp
Method

  • Roast the ground nuts and remove the skin,keep aside.
  • Soak the aval in water for few seconds and squeeze out the water and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a kadai and add the cumin seeds,when it splutter add finely chopped vegetables(5 to 9).
  • Fry it till the onion become translucent.
  • Add sugar, salt,ground nuts,chilly powder and turmeric powder,fry until its raw smell disappears.
  • Put the aval and mix it well with the masala.
  • Cover the kadai and cook it for few minutes.
  • Add lemon juice and mix well.
  • Garnish it with coriander leaves and grated coconut, serve it hot.
