Khara pongal
Pongal is a popular rice based South Indian dish popular especially in Tamil Nadu. There are different varieties of Pongal namely sakarai pongal (sweet pongal), khara pongal (spicy pongal). Here is the simple recipe to prepare khara Pongal.

Pongal is a popular rice based South Indian dish popular especially in Tamil Nadu. There are different varieties of Pongal namely sakarai pongal (sweet pongal), khara pongal (spicy pongal). Here is the simple recipe to prepare khara Pongal.
Ingredients
- Rice-1 cup
- Moong dal-1cup
- Green chillies-2nos
- Ginger(Grated)-1 pice
- Water-4cup
- Turmeric powder1/4 tsp
- Cumin seeds-1tsp
- Pepper powder-1tsp
Steps
- Wash the rice and moong dal seperately and keep aside.
- Heat ghee in a cooker and fry cashews and keep aside.
- Again heat a little ghee , splutter the mustard seeds and cumin seeds.
- Add chopped green chillies and fry it for another few seconds.
- Now add moong dal and fry it again.
- Add rice,water,turmeric powder and salt.
- Close the cooker and cook it for 3 whistles.
- Add fried cashews,pepper powder and chopped coriander leaves.
- Serve it hot.
