Aviyal is one of the typical Kerala curry and is a must have dish of Onasadhya.
Without Aviyal any vegetarian sadhya will be incomplete.
Aviyal is considered as part of Kerala's own culture.
Preparing Aviyal is not that difficult,in fact it is easy.
We need different vegetables as given below.
Ingredients
- Potato - 2nos
- Yam - 100g
- Raw banana - 100g
- Carrot - 1nos
- Drum stick - 2nos
- Snake gourd - 200g
- Pea - 4 nos
- Colocasia - 2nos
- Green chilly -3nos
- Chilly powder -1tsp
- Turmeric powder -1/2tsp
- Coconut -1/2nos
- Cumin seeds -1/2tsp
- Sambar onion -4nos
- Curd -1cup
- Coconut oil -2tbls
- Curry leaves -1nos
- Salt -To taste
Preparation
- Cut the vegetables(1to9) into small pieces.
- Grind the scrapped coconut,cuminseeds,and sambar onion.
- Add 1 cup of water to the cut vegetables.
- Add chillypowder,turmeric powder and salt to the vegitable mix.
- Cook the vegetables in a pressure cooker or in the utensil you normally use to cook vegetables.
- Add the ingredients in step2 to the above when it is almost cooked and cook it for another 3 to 4 minutes.
- Add curd, coconut oil and curry leaves and heat the mix for another 1 minute and aviyal is ready.
