Vellayappam Recipe,Palappam,Easy vellayappam recipe
Appam is perhaps the most famous Kerala Dish after Puttu.Appam is also known as Palappam or Vellayappam.Preparing Appam and the steps to follow are given below.Ingredients
Raw rice(dosha rice)- 4 Cup
Coconut (grated)- 2 Cup
Rice(cooked rice/choru)- 1/2 Cup
Yeast-1/4 tsp
Sugar-2tbsp
Salt To Taste
- Soak rice for 4-6 hours.
- Grind the rice along with the grated coconut, cooked rice,yeast and sugar with some water thoroughly(just like the batter for dosha).
- Keep aside the batter to ferment overnight or 7 to 9 hours.
- Add required salt just before cooking
- Pour some(5tbsp) batter into the appa chatti(the pan) and rotate the pan to get a thin layer of batter on the sides and more batter in the middle.
- Cover the pan and keep medium flame while cooking(2 to 3 minutes)
- When it get cooked take out the appam with the help of a spatula.
Tips: Use some coconut water for grinding the rice instead of water,it may helps to improve the taste and softness.
