Koottu curry is a famous Malabar dish and is one of the favorite in North Kerala.
This a famous Onam curry and is a part of famous Onasadhya.
How to prepare
Ingredients
- Bengal Gram(kadala) - 1cup
- Yam("Chena" in Malayalam) - 100g
- Raw Banana - 1nos
- Turmeric powder -1/2 tsp
- Chilly powder - 1 tsp
- Pepper powder - 1 tsp
- Coconut - 1/2 nos
- Cumin seeds(Jeerakam) - 1/2 tsp
- Coconut oil - 1 tbs
- Mustard - 1/2 tsp
- Urad dhal - 1tsp
- Scrapped cocunut - 2tbs
- Curry leaves - 1nos
- Salt - to taeste
How to prepare
Cook the Bengal gram in a cooker and keep aside.Grind the coconut and Cumin Seeds and make it thick paste.
Cut the Yam and Banana into small pieces and add the turmeric powder,chilly powder, pepper powder and salt , cook well.
Add the cooked Bengal gram to this.Mix it with already prepared coconut and cumin seed paste.
Heat coconut oil in a frying pan and add Mustard,Urad dal and scrapped coconut and fry tll it become brown.Add this to the cooked mix.
Koottu curry is ready.
